Mercedes is preparing to launch its first EV of the brand Maybachwhich will take the form of a EQS SUV even more luxurious for the year model 2024and that has been spied on recently.

The first taste of off-roading came in 2021 when Mercedes showed off a Maybach EQS concept at the Munich Motor Show, but prototypes of the flagship EQS have since been spotted testing in summer weather, and this time it was seen in the snow sporting even less disguise.

Not that this scruffy-looking test car is giving up much of a hint about its lofty status in the EQS range. When the actual model launches next year as a 2024 model, you can expect it to look more like the show car, with expensive two-tone paint, distinctive alloy wheels, and unique Maybach grille and pinstripe bumpers.

But even those differences will only represent simple detail changes over the regular EQS SUV. The sheet metal is identical between the cars, and even the electric motors could be shared with lesser models like the EQS 580. That would give the Maybach some 536 hp (544 PS) and 633 lb-ft (858 Nm) of torque.

Where he Maybach attempt to differentiate itself from its less expensive siblings is on the inside. Like the EQS 580, and unlike the cheaper EQS 450, the Maybach It will have Mercedes’ triple-screen Hyperscreen dash as standard, but it will top both cars with more opulent leather trim and a distinct cabin design.

price unknown

The EQS SUV It comes standard with a five-seat configuration and the option to add a third row in the trunk. But like the 2021 concept, the production Maybach EQS SUV is expected to offer two individual seats separated by a second-row console and no third-row option.

At the moment we can only speculate on how much the flagship EQS will cost, but based on the $125,000 Mercedes wants for a 580 EQS, the Maybach could exceed US$150,000. That’s a big part of the change, but there are almost no serious rivals in the super-luxury electric SUV space at the moment, so Mercedes would have a clear way in this arena.
