The news around the Porsche 911 Dakar do not stop. When it was presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show, its metallic bodywork, tinted in blue and white, was a tribute to the winner of the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. A decoration that will not be the only one in charge of evoking the past of the brand in the world of competition: the Porsche 911 Dakar is dressed in Martini (and other historical editions).
Customizing the Porsche 911 Dakar will be part of the list of options for the off-road version of the Porsche 911: it won’t be a cheap extra, but if you’re going to spend more than 250,000 euros on the German SUV… a few thousand euros doesn’t seem like a problem. The manufacturer from Stuttgart will offer wraps that they evoke the appearance of the models participating in the East African Safari Rally of 1971, 1974 and 1978.
All sticker sets can be ordered from the factory through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, but the 1971 and 1974 models can also be ordered later at Porsche Tequipment in Porsche Centers.
Remembering the competitions of 1971, 1974 and 1978
The next owners of the Porsche 911 Dakar will have three options to choose. The first emulates the decoration worn by the model that participated in the East African Safari Rally in 1971 (later known as Rally Safari): black stripes on the hood, front wings and doors. To them are added, on this occasion, the number 19 and the name of the brand.
Its price (4,890 euros, approximately) it is the same as the duration that reminds us of the 1974 participation: that Porsche wore its sides, from the front headlights to the rear fenders, thick blue stripes accompanied by narrower ones in a lighter tone.
The most exclusive game is the one from 1978, which recovers the decoration of Martini Racing Team: Through the body of the Porsche 911 Dakar they ply the curves in red and blue tones, while the brand adds the number fourteen to the doors. This customization is the most expensive (around 7,000 euros), but it also adds more style.
The exclusive rally package
To these is added the well-known Rally package, which includes, among other elements, a two-tone bodywork that reproduces the classic Rothmans paint scheme worn by some of the models that participated in the Dakar in the eighties.
It not only includes the two-tone finish, but also details such as red and gold stripes, white wheels, the word ‘Roughroads’ on the doors and the possibility of choosing a competition number between 0 and 900. To carry out this customization, which is done manually, takes 16 hours: reason why it costs 30,000 euros.
