A few years ago, Jaguar decided to become one of the first brands to try its luck in a segment in which innovations are generally welcome.. We are talking about the premium SUV segment, where Jaguar launched the Jaguar I-PACE, a 100% electric model that, at that time, hardly had any competition. 5 years after its launch, Jaguar slightly updates the look of the model, but…Is it still an interesting purchase?
Born in 2018, The Jaguar I-PACE was launched on the market with the firm purpose of becoming one of the pioneers in the luxury electric marketstarting a path that brands such as Mercedes would follow shortly after with the Mercedes EQC or Audi with the Audi e-tron quattro, currently renamed Audi Q8 e-tron.
Its style, its interior and obviously its mechanical approach were far from everything we knew to date, especially if we were talking about the British firm. With almost 400 CV powered by a 90 kWh capacity battery, the Jaguar I-PACE approved -and approves- a range of 470 kilometerswhich, at the time of its launch, was a more than respectable figure in a market that was not used to electric vehicles with such autonomy.
However, as is logical, the passage of time and the arrival of successive rivals has left the Jaguar in a slightly more backward position, being surpassed by most of its competitors. For example, a button: In 2022, 55 I-PACE units were registered, while Audi exceeded 200 e-tron registrations and Mercedes exceeded 100 EQC units. Coinciding with the arrival of 2023, the British brand has slightly renewed its aesthetics and its equipment, but… will it be enough to relaunch sales of the English model?
The news of the Jaguar I-PACE 2023
The Jaguar I-PACE debuts in 2023 a more daring and current design thanks to a new completely blind grill very much in line with current trends in which the vast majority of electric cars lack almost any cooling grid and inlet, mainly because they do not need it.
On the other hand, the range of colors of the I-PACE is enriched with two new shades for the bodywork: Eiger Gray and Carpathian Grey. In addition, the “Black Pack” package is added to the standard aesthetic equipment, with different details of the bodywork painted in glossy black, although it is still possible to order the I-PACE with chrome details for lovers of the most classic Jaguar aesthetic. Users who like larger and sportier wheels are in luck, as the English model adds to their options some new 22″ wheels with carbon fiber inserts that, yes, have an extra cost of just over €4,900.
Otherwise, the Jaguar remains unchanged. It is therefore a well-equipped vehicle as standard by offering elements such as the Pivi Pro infotainment system with dual touch screen and connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the full LED lighting system, the 20-inch wheels or the leather upholstery with electric seats in the front.
Mechanically there is no modification. so that we continue to have an all-wheel drive scheme thanks to the double motor system (one per axle) powered by a 90 kWh capacity battery that supports charges at 11 kW in alternating current and 100 kW in direct current. With an approved consumption and autonomy of 22 kWh and 470 km respectively, the truth is that this model offers the least favorable figures in its segment in terms of efficiency.
