volkswagen has recently unveiled two concept vehicles, and now adds a third that makes its first appearance at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show, better known as SEMA in Las Vegas. The VW Jetta GLI Performance Concept arrives as a motorsports-inspired version of the sports sedan which pays homage to the history of passenger cars in jetta. The sedan brings many visual and hardware updates, something that makes it more powerful than the Jetta GLI original.
VW Jetta GLI Performance Concept
Starting with the outside, the concept which is based on a Jetta GLI Autobahn 2022 it now has 0.8-inch-wider front and rear fenders, giving it a more muscular appearance.
This matches the larger side skirts and air intakes in the modified front bumper. The body is finished in matte black with a custom hexagon-themed vinyl wrap. A set of 20-inch Rotiform monobloc wheels with custom covers complete the styling changes.
However, beyond its bodywork, what happens under the hood is surely more interesting.
Jetta GLI Performance Concept Powertrain
The original 2.0-liter engine receives a new RacingLine performance packageThis includes: a carbon fiber cold air intake, a new intercooler, an oil management kit with a new oil cooler, and other hardware upgrades. The result is a maximum output of 350 Hp (261 kW) and 372 lb-ft (504 Nm) of torque, up from the factory 228 hp (170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.
Power is directed to the front wheels through the manual transmission six-speed transmission mated to an improved performance clutch pack. Acceleration figures are not available at this time, but the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time is expected to be closer to five seconds.
The braking power of Jetta GLI Concept is provided by a new brake kit six-piston forged caliper with carbon and ceramic discs. Additionally, an upgraded suspension kit with lowering springs and fully adjustable solid top mounts offers what the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer describes as “track-worthy suspension that feels right at home on the street.”
