It’s been nearly five and a half years since Mercedes-AMG took the Frankfurt Motor Show by storm with the unveiling of the Project One concept car. It wasn’t until June 2022 that the later production version was unveiled. And now, deliveries of the F1-powered machine have finally begun. The Germans used social media to reveal a trio of images of the first Mercedes-AMG One delivered to a customer.
First Mercedes-AMG One
Sporting German “ON1” license plates, the hypercar is mostly black, sporting Petronas green accents and numerous white three-pointed stars on the rear section. The tip of the roof intake is finished in red and there are prominent white “AMG” lettering on the front grill. Truly, a racing car for the roadthe fastest street-legal production vehicle around the Nürburgring, Hockenheim and Red Bull Ring is limited to just 275 copies.
It is not known who owns the first One, but F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and David Coulthard have signed on the dotted line to purchase the hand-built electrified beast. Indeed, The Sun wrote in September 2017 when Project One was revealed that LH expects to take delivery of two cars, one of which will be given to his father Anthony. Real estate mogul Manny Khoshbin, actor Mark Wahlberg and tennis star Ion Țiriac were also reported to be among the 275 clients.
As previously reported, production starts in August 2022 and the cars are assembled at AMG’s facility in Coventry, UK. The intricate hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engine and four electric motors comes from Mercedes-AMG’s performance powertrain division in Brixworth. A dedicated production facility had to be created with the help of Multimatic, each of which had to go through 16 assembly and test stations.
Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cars of our time, the AMG One with all wheel drive it had a bumpy road on its way to production. Making the 566-hp ICE compliant with Euro 6 regulations was one of the biggest hurdles engineers encountered, a V6 that runs at 1,200rpm instead of 5,000rpm as is the case in the F1 car. The ICE engine revs up to 11,000 rpm and has to be rebuilt once every 50,000 kilometers (31,000 miles), but the Ones are unlikely to see much use.
