When it comes to six-wheel conversions, it’s safe to say that Volvo doesn’t usually come to mind. However, treat your eyes to the first generation XC60 which is no longer an SUV as it has been converted into a pickup truck with a third axle and a bed. Based on a pre-facelift version, the stunning ute has an R-Design look and was spotted last weekend at an auto meet in Sweden.
It appeared at the Stockholm Cruising where it shared the road with many classic American cars and trucks, along with a beautiful Audi V8, the latest generation RS6 Avant, and some old but gold BMWs. The three-axle oddity isn’t the only interesting Volvo at the car confluence as we can also see a mint condition Amazon sedan. However, it’s the SUV-turned-Scandinavian truck that makes us wonder: Why?
We did a little digging and found that the XC60 pickup most likely represents the work of the Swedish company Dalbo Fordonstechnic, which has been building its fair share of unconventional Volvos over the years. It’s unclear if the truck was really a 6×6 or if the third axle was just dragged. We honestly don’t really like the five-spoke wheels because they don’t always match the beefy looks of the truck enhanced by the bull rod.
Other notable changes include LED light bars on the roof and grilles on the rear windows. The six-wheeled XC60 looks to be in great condition and you’d be surprised to hear it’s not the only truck of its kind as Dalbo Fordonstechnics also makes a black XC90 ute with chrome wheels. The beds are a decent size, although it’s hard to imagine someone would actually load a special truck for work.
