USA: Latino driver ran over 25 cadets from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department; 5 in critical condition

A Latino driver hit a 25 law enforcement cadets in southern California this Wednesday morning, five of them are seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 6:25 a.m., prompting a large mobilization of police, firefighters and medics to the intersection in South Whittier, near the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s STAR Explore Training Academy.

It was a class of 75 recruits, mostly from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The number of injured was confirmed by the sheriff. Alex Villanueva: 25.

Injuries range from head trauma to broken bones and loss of limbs, according to Villanueva, who added that one of them is connected to a fan.

Patients are being treated at various care facilities, including St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood and LAC+USC Medical Center.


Now we are dealing with some life altering injuries from the more severely injured recruits… We hope everyone makes a full recovery and has a chance to come back and complete the academy. That’s my goal”, it states villanueva.

Capt. Sheila Kelliher of the state Fire Department issued a statement on what He wished the injured a speedy recovery.

It’s hard to see why these young people are preparing to put themselves in jeopardy in their careers, and who knows if while you’re training to do that, you’ve put yourself in jeopardy.said Capt. Kelliher.

The car involved in the accident is a Honda CRV SUV, which appeared to have crashed into a pole and sustained significant front end damage.

The person responsible was identified as a 22-year-old male of Latino origin who was heading in the opposite direction, his injuries were minor. This incident remains under investigation.
