Last year’s wild GT XX concept gave us our first look at Mercedes’ first electric vehicle developed from day one by AMG. Before you get out your pitchforks, let’s not forget that the performance subsidiary has had electric vehicles in the past, most notably the SLS AMG Electric Drive. There are also newer EQ-badged cars tuned in Affalterbach, but they were all originally Mercedes models before getting the AMG treatment.
Less than a year after the concept, Mercedes-AMG brings us a production model. The second generation GT 4-Door Coupe retains its elaborate name but adopts a very different interior. In keeping with the latest model bearing the famous three-pointed star, this electric super sedan has an all-screen dashboard.
Echoing the new CLA and facelifted S-Class, the screen has thick bezels, rather than a continuous screen as found on the electric GLC. We honestly can’t decide which setup we prefer, but we’re already missing the more traditional dashboard layout of its gas-powered predecessor.

A triple-screen layout positioned behind a glass panel displays a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a pair of 14-inch displays. The infotainment display is tilted slightly towards the driver to mimic the cockpit, while a similarly sized screen to the right keeps the front passenger entertained with multimedia content.
The new high-performance EV has far fewer conventional buttons and switches than previous V8 cars, after Mercedes-AMG integrated climate control into the center screen. On the plus side, there are three rotary knobs mounted on the center console to change the response of the electric motor, nine-stage traction control and cornering behavior. Like the infotainment and central air vents, the switches are also tilted towards the driver.

Elsewhere, everything works as usual, including the touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel. Mercedes also installed an extra screen at the back of the center console so the two rear passengers can adjust the climate settings. Despite being built on a dedicated electric car platform, the new GT 4-Door Coupe appears to have a large hump in the floor that robs rear passengers of legroom.
Although the interior images show a four-seat layout, there will also be an option for a five-seat configuration. In both cases, the backrest can be folded when you need to carry large items. Practicality should be more than adequate considering the size of the car and the five-door liftback shape carried over from the first generation.
As if the AMG emblem adorning the front headrests wasn’t obvious enough, the famous logo is also large on the sunroof glass. The riverside apple tree, which represents AMG’s location in Affalterbach, lights up along with the cams, valves and valve springs, even though the car does not have a combustion engine. This one-piece glass surface extends all the way to the rear and has a dimmable section, so passengers inside can choose how much light enters the cabin.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to see its production-ready exterior, but last year’s concept doesn’t seem far from the final product. As for technical specifications, the GT XX uses a three-motor setup with a combined 1,341 horsepower, allowing a top speed exceeding 224 mph (360 km/h). The concept is also a charging beast, capable of supporting more than 850 kW of power to charge enough batteries to travel 249 miles (400 kilometers) in just five minutes.
Mercedes-AMG is also preparing an SUV with GT 4-Door Coupe hardware for those who prefer comfort over sitting too close to the road. Expect to see it appear sometime next year, once the five-door liftback hits the market before the end of 2026.

Motorcycle Pickup1: Demand for high-end electric vehicles has not matched the desires of luxury brands, but Mercedes-AMG insists there is a large enough market to make the GT 4-Door Coupe a relevant product. This figure has doubled compared to SUVs, but it remains to be seen whether high-end consumers will be convinced by the new models.
If you don’t like sporty electric vehicles, the good news is that their arrival won’t come at the expense of gas models. Mercedes-AMG is working on a new V8 for future performance ICE vehicles and possibly some hot plug-in hybrids as well. Meanwhile, the AMG C-Class is equipped with a six-cylinder engine, so it cannot be a fully electric vehicle.
